日本人ゲイのAkiです。
Tuと出会ったベトナムの旅は終わりました。
日本に帰ってからもTuとはSNSでやり取りをしていましたが、それは一人のベトナム人の友達としてとAkiは思っていました。その時Tuはどう思っていたか。
あとで聞くと、
”この人と友達になりたい”
と思ってくれたそうです。
しかし、帰国してしばらくするとTuとは疎遠になり、チャットもしなくなっていました。
東南アジアはベトナムだけではない、カンボジア、ラオス、タイなどもあるし、
じゃあ次はベトナムの隣国カンボジアに行こう、と思い立ちました。
アンコールワットを見よう。
アンコールワットはシュレムアップ（Siem Reap)という町にあり、ここに行くにはバンコクかハノイ経由となります。
しかし、やはりTuのことは忘れられず、迷わずハノイ経由にしてハノイ一泊の旅程を組みました。
Akiはベトナムを旅してこの国で一人だけ本当に付き合える人が欲しいと思うようになっていたのだと思います。
久々にTuに連絡すると、なんと今はベトナムではなくカンボジアにいるとのこと。
以前勤めていた日系企業は辞めて今はベトナム企業に勤務してカンボジア駐在となっていました。ベトナム人はいとも簡単に会社を辞めるんです。
日本でも最近は転職に抵抗はなくなってきたというものの、少なくとも3年は勤務するのが普通です。Tuは件の日系企業に大学卒業後に勤めていたのですが１年余りで転職しました。あとで理由を聞くと、いたってシンプル。
”だって給料安かったから”
長く勤めることのメリットはベトナムではないようです。
それで、
今度カンボジアに行くけど会ってくれる？ と聞くと、
”ふううん、少し考えてみる”
ということなのでしばらく返事を待ってました。
結局、Tuは休暇でベトナムに戻るタイミングがたまたまAkiと旅程があったのでカンボジアではなく再びハノイで会うことになりました。
8月のハノイは猛暑でした。もうお馴染みとなったノイバイ空港に降り立ち、外へ出ると、もわっとした熱気がまとわりついてきます。
この感覚は大好きです。
日本での日常から完全に離れ、ベトナムに来たんだ、というこみ上げてくるものがあります。久々のハノイですが前回とほとんど景色は変わっていません。
８か月で大きく変わることもないのですが、Akiの目には新鮮に思えました。
やっぱり、この国はいい
お気に入りの旧市街のホテルに着いて、しばらく周りを散策しました。
ホアンキエム湖のすぐ近くにレストランがあり、ここで一人で夕食をとりました。
湖のほとりなので、湖面から涼しげな風が流れてきます。
焼き飯とビール。大きなエビも入ってなかなか美味しい。
たいたい２０００円くらい。ベトナムの通貨はドン（VND)なのでレシートに書かれている金額は４００，０００VND。１円が２００VND。
通貨換算がややこしいのですが、Akiはいつも頭の中で０を２つとって、２で割ることにしています。
レストランにはほとんどベトナム人はいません。韓国人グループや西洋人がほとんどです。日本人もめったにいませんでしたが。
夕食で一人４０万ドンは高いのです。
もっと安くておいしい店が他にたくさんあり、このレストランは外国人観光客向けのようでした。それでもひとしきり、ホアンキエム湖を眺めながら旅情に浸ることができ、満足することができました。そのあと暗くなってきたのでホテルに帰ることにしました。
しかし、まだTuから連絡はありません。
Tuはカンボジアの首都プノンペンで働いていて、３－４か月に一度ベトナムに帰ってきます。フライトはプノンペンからラオスのビエンチャン経由でハノイ、ノイバイ空港着。
もう着いてもいい頃なのに。来ないかもしれないな、と思いつつ、
いい加減待ちくたびれて、ベッドに横たわって、うとうとしていると電話がかかってきました。
”Tuだよ”
空港からのバスが混雑していて遅くなったとのこと
今どこにいるの？
”ホテルのロビーにいるよ”
あわてて降りてゆくと、Tuが大きなバックパックを背負ってにこにこしながら待っていました。
Tuは本当に来ました。
うれしい。
この人、いままで約束を違えたことがない。
信頼できる！
それで、その夜はずっと同じ部屋で二人だけで過ごしました。
翌朝、起きるとTuが電話をしてました。
相手はママ。
どうもいろいろ言われているようです。Tuはあせっている様子。
電話が終わると、そそくさと着替え、
”今から家に帰る！”
慌ただしく荷造りを済ませるとそのままホテルから出てゆきました。
なんで？と思ったのですが、ベトナム人にとって家族は第一優先なのです。
Tuはほぼ毎週ハノイから実家に帰っていました。両親、親戚と時間を過ごすためです。今回はカンボジア駐在になって久々の帰郷なので、ママの言うことは絶対なのでした。
別れ際にちょっとしたプレゼントをして、じゃあまた、と軽く言って別れました。
Tuはバス停目指して小走りに出てゆきました。
ちょっぴり寂しい。
やっぱり好きかな、でもベトナム人の彼氏と長く付き合えるのだろうか。
そんな思いを巡らせながら、その日は一人でハノイの名所を巡ってみました。

ホテルから歩いてすぐのところにホアロー刑務所（博物館）があります。近代にベトナムはフランスの植民地になり、その際に建てられた刑務所だそうです。フランスが撤収した後も刑務所をして利用され、ベトナム戦争時はアメリカ軍捕虜が収容されていました。外見は瀟洒な作りですが、入ると受刑者の人形が置いてあり、往時のつらい刑務所生活が垣間見れるようになっています。
ベトナムの歴史をひも解くと、ベトナムは中国に１０００年もの間支配され、苦渋を舐めてきました。その分、中国文化の影響を強く受けているのですが、同じく中国の影響を受けた日本とは大きく異なり、中国支配から逃れるために幾度となく戦いを挑んできました。

なんとか中国からの独立を維持できるようになると、今度はフランスが侵略してきました。
インドシナ半島（ベトナム、ラオス、カンボジア）はフランスの植民地となりました。
次は日本です。
第二次世界大戦勃発に伴い、日本は仏印に進駐します。このおかげでフランスは一時的に撤収します。大戦が終わると日本は破れ、再びフランスが植民地化を画策します。
これと戦ったのがホーチミン率いるベトナム民主共和国、インドシナ共産党でした。
ホーチミンは有名なディエンビエンフーの戦いで完膚なきまでにフランスを下し、ベトナム北部の独立を達成します。その後は米ソ冷戦時代に突入し、ベトナム南部（ベトナム共和国）を支持するアメリカとの戦い（ベトナム戦争）が繰り広げられました。
ホアロー刑務所はある種、ベトナムの象徴なのかもしれません。
ベトナムを植民地にしたフランスが建てた刑務所に、アメリカ人が収容される、
ベトナムが血みどろになって自らの独立のために繰り広げてきた証拠という意味で。
今はもうフランスもアメリカも来ません。至極陽気な観光客が来るだけです。
ただ、民族が独立していたい、という単純で正当な願いを、今でもベトナム人はDNAに強く刻んでいるように思います。
ホアロー刑務所のあとは、文廟（べトナム最古の大学）を訪れました。
建築の様式はほぼ中国です。文廟の創建は約千年前の1070年、宋（中国）から儒教が取り入れられ、その開祖である「孔子」を祀る文廟が築かれたのが最初とのこと。次いでベトナム朝廷は儒教による教育を重視し、朝廷の人材を試験で決める科挙を採用、1075年に最初の試験が行われました。
この科挙は同じ中国文化の影響を受けた朝鮮でも導入され、一方、日本では導入されませんでした。一説によれば、儒教⇒科挙の制度が近代化を妨げた理由だとされています。
日本は海を隔てて中国とは一線を画すことができましたが、ベトナムは朝鮮同様、国境を接しており、怒涛のごとく中国文化の浸食を受けました。
その名残を今でも見ることができるというわけです。
日本人であるAkiは同じ中国の周辺国ということでベトナムに強い親近感を感じていました。メンタリティーや考え方が似ているようにも思いました。

そんな思いを抱きつつ、その日の夕方ハノイ・ノイバイ空港からカンボジアのシュレムアップに空路移動しました。

However, there is still no communication from Tu.
Tu acts in capital Phnom Penh, Cambodia and comes back to Vietnam once in 3-4 months. A flight is Hanoi, arrival at noy by airport via Vientiane, Laos from Phnom Penh.
It is about time when you may already arrive. I got tired after waiting for good addition and subtraction while thinking that I might not come, and I lay, and a telephone suffered from a bed when I dozed off.

This employment examination for government officials was introduced in Korea affected by the same China culture and was not introduced in Japan. According to another view, the system of the Confucianism ⇒ employment examination for government officials is considered to be the reason that disturbed the modernization.
Japan was able to make a clear distinction with China across the sea, but Vietnam was bordered as well as Korea and received erosion of the Chinese culture like a surging wave.
